She and Dan Shapiro have been collaborating since the sixth grade. Daniel M. Shapiro has edited a lingerie catalog, broken his collarbone by jumping from a moving car, and been called "gorgeous" by Burt Reynolds. He first collaborated with Jessy Randall in sixth grade when he made her cry, but their work has become more accessible since then. They paid me to say things like "leverage" or "repurpose." I held meetings and didn't invite you. I sent e-mails that were supposed to be funny, but nobody knew. It's great to have a real chat now, even if we're in different places. How I've longed to be where jargon is dead, where the inbox and outbox are one and the same. I'm free to think about anything at all, anything, anything I want to think about. Exchange Let's take all the citizens in your city and put them in my city. The citizens of my city will go somewhere else. The citizens from your city can live in the houses that are already here. They can use our furniture and eat from our refrigerators. They will need to adjust to the altitude and humidity. We hope they'll feed our pets. If they ask you what they should expect, tell them, "You'll find out when you get there." If they get homesick just remind them it's all for the good of science. And they'll get paid, or someone will. I'm With You I'm with you when it comes to macaroni and cheese.
