- Description : At least nine people have been kill...(more)ed and 50 others injured when a Turkish Airlines plane crashed while attempting to land in the Netherlands, Dutch officials have said.
The crash occurred when flight TK1951 from Istanbul to Amsterdam, which was carrying 135 people, missed the runway at the capital's Schipol Airport.
The plane split into three parts after it hit the ground around 3km short of the runway and the cause of the crash is still unclear.
Ineke van der Zande, an emergency services spokeswoman, said six people were critically injured, 25 people were severely wounded and 24 passengers had light injuries.
Michel Bezuijen, mayor of the Haarlemmermeer municipality, where the airport is located, said: "Of the 50 people injured, 25 were seriously injured."
Huseyin Sumer, a survivor, told Turkish NTV television that he crawled to safety out of a crack in the fuselage.
Sumer said: "We were about to land, we could not understand what was happening, some passengers screamed in panic but it happened so fast."
He said the crash was over in five to 10 seconds.
Authorities said they had found the flight data recorders of the plane and that they would be sent to Paris for analysis.
Fred Sanders of the Dutch Safety Board said: "The recording equipment has been found.''
Two pilots and an apprentice pilot were believed to be among the dead.

Anita McNaught, Al Jazeera's correspondent in Ankara, the Turkish capital, said there was speculation that the crash was the result of a "misjudged approach", although she stressed it was impossible to establish what caused the accident before examining the in-flight recorders. (less)
