- Description : Hi guys! You're at Get-the-Daily's...(more) Hollywood movie weekend rewind. I'm Dana Ward starting off with a quick recap of the latest box office results.
At number 5, the family fantastical adventure, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, took home 12-point-7-million. Following close behind, in its fifth week back to theatres, Marvel Comics brought us Iron Man and fans paid 13-point-5-million-bucks to watch the all-star cast in action. At a solid number 3, The Strangers and its fabulously freaky plotline debuted with almost 21-million in gross. With an impressive 215-million bucks in just two weeks, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull fought hard against the Soviets for an ancient artifact. And, of course, the much anticipated Sex and the City: The Movie stole the show in its debut weekend with a first place finish just under 60-million thanks to the t-v show's die-hard fans.
And in celebration of the past year's favorite movies, the weekend's 17th annual MTV Movie Awards kicked off with a gold carpet, and it was filled with all of Hollywood's celebutauntes. We're talking party girls Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, musicians P-Diddy and Chris Brown and of course, movie stars. Some fan-fave winners include Johnny Depp, Ellen Page, Will Smith and Zac Efron. Mike Myers led the Movie Awards as the host participating in several comedic skits. This year's best film went to Transformers. The show featured two musical performances, one from Coldplay and the other from the Pussycat Dolls. And special recognition was given by presenter Tom Cruise to Adam Sandler for the TV Generation Award.
The night rolled seamlessly into an MTV Movie Awards afterparty at the outdoor space just in front of Gibson Amphitheatre. It was all topped off with show replays on a Jumbo-Tron, sushi, a cash bar and of course, a velvet rope. For a closer look at the Movie Awards, goto m-t-v.com.
