You may have already seen the tatty little preview of this ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxTX9-k4TZw ). Well...
Here I go, here I go, here I go again
Girls, what's my weakness? (Overly complex videos!)
Okay then, chillin', chillin', mindin' my business
Yo, Salt, I looked around and I couldn't believe it
I swear, I stand, Twitter my witness,
That Seeso's comp was going on with something kinda
Wicked, wicked, had to kick it
48 hours later*, look what you've got!
(*At least, that's when it would have been accessible by had my internet connection not dropped out seconds before I started the upload)
It's all uke 'n' voice. And I guess it's a shambolic record of my learning Salt 'n' Pepa's Shoop one night, early the following morning and a bit the day after that.
Not all that long ago, all I'd ever heard of Shoop was captainburrito incorporating a verse of it into their brilliant cover of Damien Rice's 9 Crimes. I found it amusing. Then 3 days ago on an exceptionally lo-fi corner of YouTube I came across that same verse plus one other being spoken by Ellen DeGeneres. I felt the urge to cover the song. Decided that I would do so, with the help of some uke. Finally, the next day (which would become day one of recording), I actually listened to the full, original track. Shortly thereafter I stumbled upon Seeso's video announcement of a hip-hop uke comp. I'm sure there's something insightful that could be said about all that. Instead, I say toddle on over to www.ukuleleunderground.com after you've watched this, because it really is very resource-rich and, well, the contest is UU-based, so the site is rather relevant to this post.
So, this is my 1st submission to the contest described here:

I'm so excited about the whole deal I haven't even looked up Shoop's release details! (less)
