- Description : At first glance, this short film ma...(more)y appear to be about the Andy Samberg/Chris Parnell Saturday Night Live digital short "Lazy Sunday:The Chronicles Of Narnia". However, in truth, it concerns conformity and liberty in the digital age and monied interests that seek to protect their personal pecuniary fiefdoms. The Internet is the most revolutionary invention since the printing press, and that was in the 15th century! Prior to the printing press, scripts were painstakingly copied by the cloistered elite. And because of this, they controlled the dissemination of information. The printing press blew the lid off the whole thing. Obviously, the Internet has the potential to put at least some power in our hands. I don't know the answers, but why not ask some questions. Five hundred years ago, artists pulled everything from their surrounding natural/human-made world to create art. But now we're living in an almost entirely human-made world. If everyone is protecting their piece what does it mean for creativity? (saw a Charlie Rose interview about this--if anyone remembers the interview, please let me know the guy's name). And what does it mean for freedom? How should authorship be defined in the digital age? As I said, I don't know the answers, but at least I'm asking. One final note--I've reversed the numerals in the ten-dollar bill to read 01 (ie binary code) to suggest the computer. Conversely, the "one-zero" in the bill represents pecuniary interests. In addition, the red, white and blue may be seen as the colors of the American flag or red (fraternity), blue (equality), white (liberty)...and in the words of the in"imitable" Andy Samberg,"Girl acted like she never seen a ten befo'It's all about the Hamiltons, baby."Music: "Communication" by the Aussie rockers INXS and "Life On Mars" by the staggering dreampop/shoegazer band Televise with former members of Slowdive.
