• Cornwell's fingerprints all over Lifetime movies

  LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Patricia Cornwell hassigned a deal with Lifetime to adapt two of her crime novelsinto movies, a first for the best-selling author.

  Cornwell has worked in television before -- she waswriter/exe

  cutive producer on ABC's short-lived 1999 series"ATF," which was not based on one of her novels. But theLifetime movies, "At Risk" and the upcoming sequel, "TheFront," will mark the first time any of her books will beadapted for the big or small screen.

  "At Risk" originally appeared as a 15-week serialization inthe New York Times Sunday Magazine in January 2006 before beingreleased by G.P. Putnam's Sons in book form four months later.It revolves around Massachusetts state investigator Win Garano,a shrewd man with a chip on his shoulder; D.A. Monique Lamont,a hard-charging woman with powerful ambitions; and Garano'sgrandmother, who has certain unpredictable talents.

  "The Front" is set to be released by Putnam on May 20.

  Lifetime has seen success with book adaptations. It mostrecently inked a deal to adapt four more Nora Roberts novelsfollowing the success of last year's quartet. Others includeJoyce Carol Oates' "We Were the Mulvaneys"; Sue Monk Kidd's"The Mermaid Chair"; Kim Edwards' "The Memory Keeper'sDaughter," which debuted Saturday; and Jodi Picoult's "TheTenth Circle," premiering June 28.

  Cornwell is best known for her string of Kay Scarpettanovels, starting with her first crime book, 1990's"Postmortem." She also has written three novels featuring AndyBrazil; two cookbooks; a children's book; the nonfiction book"Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper -- Case Closed"; and thebiography "Ruth, a Portrait: The Story of Ruth Bell Graham."

• Weezer to release own Snuggie blanket

  Weezer have teamed up with a leading U.S. blanket company to produce their own branded blanket, according to reports.

  The band are set to get their own "Snuggie," which is a blanket with sleeves, and instead w

  ill call the item a "Wuggie."

  Frontman Rivers Cuomo says that the product is a legitimate Snuggie, and the company will help promote the item with the band.

  “A Wuggie is basically exactly like a Snuggie, except it says Weezer on it. The people at Snuggie are doing it with us and promoting it with us. It’s a totally legit Snuggie,” Cuomo told Rolling Stone.

  As previously reported, Cuomo released a live DVD in April entitled Not Alone - Rivers Cuomo & Friends Live At Fingerprints which was recorded at Fingerprints record store in Long Beach, CA.

• Hendrix's burnt guitar leads rock auction in London

  LONDON (AFP) - The first guitar that rock legend Jimi Hendrix burned on stage, the only remaining fingerprints of Elvis Presley and the first contract signed by The Beatles all go on sale Thursday in a major auction of music memor

  abilia.

  Jim Morrison's last notebook, the last drumkit used by Led Zepplin's John Bonham and an unpublished song called "Mocking Bird" by David Bowie also feature in the sale, entitled "It's More than Rock and Roll" and organised by the Idea Generation Gallery.

  The top item is the first contract signed by The Beatles on January 24, 1962, which bears the names "John Winston Lennon", "George Harrison", "James Paul McCartney" and "Richard Starkey" (Ringo Starr).

  Harrison's father Harold and McCartney's dad James also signed the document as their sons were under the age of 21, while manager Brian Epstein added his name on October 1, 1962, after getting the fab four a deal with EMI for the release of "Love Me Do".

  Ted Owen, director of acquisitions at the Fame Bureau rock memorabilia firm, described the document as "the most important music contract of all time" which "completely changed the lives of The Beatles".

  "There's no other (contract) that's going to be historically, socially or politically as important as this," he said, adding he expected the document to sell for about 250,000 pounds (450,000 dollars, 300,000 euros).

  Also up for grabs is Hendrix's 1965 Fender Stratocaster, which he set alight after a landmark performance at London's Finsbury Astoria in March 1967, and which is estimated to be worth about half a million pounds.

  Hendrix was taken to hospital with minor hand injuries, during which the guitar was taken to the offices of his aide Tony Garland. It was kept at Garland's parents' garage in Hove in southern England, before Garland's nephew unearthed it in 2007.

  "When Hendrix set this guitar alight it marked a watershed in live performance. He raised the bar of what could be expected and paved the way for a series of imitations and pastiche that exist to this day," Owen said.

  Also in the auction is Morrison's last notebook, which contains lyrics, poetry and musings from The Doors frontman, fingerprints of Elvis on a gun permit and the Bechstein piano used by The Beatles to record one of their biggest hits, "Hey Jude".

• Lil' Wayne Arraigned, Sued

  Los Angeles (E! Online) - Lil' Wayne's legal problems are multiplying.

  While the New Orleans hip-hopster was being arraigned on drug charges in Atlanta Wednesday, he was also targeted in a lawsuit by a Miami jewelry com

  pany for allegedly failing to pay for his bling.

  First the serious stuff.

  The 25-year-old rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter, appeared for about 20 minutes of a three-hour preliminary hearing, enough time to plead not guilty to three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. The rapper was arrested in August 2006 after police, tipped off by a hotel employee, found marijuana and over 100 Xanax and hydrocodone pills in Wayne's room.

  He is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 20, at which time the judge is expected to rule on a series of motions filed by his lawyer, William Head, seeking to have the case dismissed.

  One of those is a petition challenging the legality of the hotel search; another is a request to inspect the evidence, such as the seized pill bottles, and have them dusted for fingerprints.

  "We asked to examine the evidence so we can prove it has no connection to him," Head told E! Online. "Let's see what the fingerprints are."

  Asked why it took a year for his client to face the music, Head lashed out at Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard.

  "You get more federal money by showing you have a huge crime problem and you just charge anybody who crossed the Fulton County system," the attorney said. "The first prosecutor who got it said, 'I'm not going to put that in front of a grand jury,' and she never did.

  "Then later, [Howard's] office files an accusation which is just a piped-up accusation and mails a notice to the address that came off Lil' Wayne's driver's license...but nobody asks him for an updated address."

  As it turned out, the case notice was sent to the rapper's address in New Orleans, which was wiped out in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Unaware of the charges, the rapper missed a couple of court hearings and an arrest warrant was issued, leading to his collar in Boise, Idaho, earlier this month.

  Consequently, the entertainer now faces a charge of being a fugitive in Idaho—a count that will be separately adjudicated in a Boise courtroom.

  If that wasn't bad enough, Wayne is also facing gun and pot charges in New York after he was arrested following a concert at Manhattan's Beacon Theater.

  And then there's his new civil action. Jack Sutton Fine Jewelry filed suit in Florida's Miami-Dade Circuit Court, alleging Lil' Wayne failed to make good on a $146,000 bill for a diamond ring and necklace  purchased earlier this month.

  "I've been doing business with him for at least 10 years," said owner Jack Sutton. "He's always been wonderful with paying me. He spent a lot of money with me. I thought we have a really good relationship. I don't know what happened."

  The Who's Your Caddy? star agreed to pony up the dough in monthly installments and initially did, Sutton says, sending one check on Oct. 12 for $24,000 and another dated January 2008. But Sutton felt forced to take legal action once those payments stopped.

  The rapper's civil attorney, Ron Sweeney, blamed the billing dispute on a "misunderstanding." Sweeney said that if Sutton's claim are true, the performer will pay up.

  Lil' Wayne was also sued in August for $1 million by the family of a 17-year-old girl. According to court documents, the girl allegedly suffered a serious head injury after the Grammy-nominated rapper—or a member of his crew—threw wads of cash into the audience during a show, instigating a melee.

• Cornwell gives $1 million for CSI in NYC

  NEW YORK - Patricia Cornwell is donating $1 million to a top criminal justice college for a new academy to teach CSI techniques.

  The best-selling novelist said she's taking action because she's appalled by what she's seen at cr

  ime scene investigations.

  "I've seen cops walk through blood. I've seen them leave their own fingerprints on a window," Cornwell said in an interview Friday. "I've seen bloody clothing put in a plastic bag, instead of a paper bag, so it decomposes."

  Her funding will help start the Crime Scene Academy at New York's John Jay College of Criminal Justice, set to open this fall with training in DNA typing, fingerprint enhancement techniques, ballistics and forensic psychology.

  The 51-year-old author has written more than a dozen books featuring Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a medical examiner. Her latest is "Book of the Dead."

  Praised for her meticulous research, Cornwell blames television and movies for misleading the public on how crimes are investigated.

  "It's like `Star Trek' compared to the real Air Force," she said.
