LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Julianna Margulies has already won Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards as the star of "The Good Wife," which just wrapped its first season on CBS. The former "ER&q
uot; actress recently spoke with the Hollywood Reporter about her new role as a junior attorney married to a disgraced prosecutor.

THE LIFE OF YOUR CHARACTER, ALICIA FLORRICK, IS LIVED IN

PUBLIC. IS YOURS?

Julianna Margulies: There's not a lot of my own personal life that's out there, except that I have a baby and a husband (attorney Keith Lieberthal) and I'm happy. My husband and I take tremendous pains to make sure our son is never photographed -- and he usually isn't. As much as I have to do publicity, I try my hardest to talk about the work.

YOUR HUSBAND'S A TRIAL ATTORNEY?

Margulies: My husband is now general counsel for a clothing company. He was a Wall Street litigator and he knew that if he wanted to see his family, litigation wasn't the way to go.

DOES HE CRITIQUE THE SHOW?

Margulies: Not really. He loves it. There are moments when he'll say, "Oh, that wouldn't have taken 20 minutes," and I'm like, "Yeah, but we have to finish the case!"

WERE YOU SURPRISED THE SHOW RECEIVED IMMEDIATE PRAISE?

Margulies: My initial surprise was that the network picked it up. I felt that network television had mostly embraced reality TV or franchise shows with a formulaic approach. As much as I thought the writers were trying to incorporate a procedural, Alicia was a very complex character in a multilayered, dramatic series.

HOW DO YOU STAY CONNECTED TO THAT CHARACTER?

Margulies: With television, you have to be OK with not knowing the answers to everything and relying on your acting chops to find the flow of a scene. I had such a great training-ground in "ER," because it was so fast. I had to rely on gut instincts.

Margulies: Yes! Now that I have a kid, I watch it with him and I can't believe how many people are on it -- Robert De Niro did "Sesame Street"! It was wonderful -- just Big Bird and me. I was a doctor and fixed his wing. It took exactly an hour and I was home.

"Life" good for Kelly Clarkson on singles chart
NEW YORK (Billboard) – Inaugural "American Idol" champ Kelly Clarkson ruled the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart on Thursday with "My Life Would Suck Without You," a week after the tune vaulted a record
96 places to the top.

Beyonce's former chart-topper "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" rebounded one place to No. 2, as Kanye West's "Heartless" also rose one, to a new peak of No. 3. Lady GaGa's "Just Dance" fell two to No. 4.

Taylor Swift's "Love Story" and the All-American Rejects' "Gives You Hell" kept their spots warm at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. The Fray's "You Found Me" rose one to No. 7, swapping places with T.I.'s "Live Your Life."

Britney Spears' "Circus" and Jason Mraz' "I'm Yours" held tight at Nos. 9 and 10, respectively.

"Prom Queen," rapper Lil Wayne's first foray into rock music, rolled onto the Hot 100 at No. 17, the highest debuting single of the calendar year. Only one other song has entered the chart inside the top 50 in 2009. U2's "Get On Your Boots" opened last week at No. 37, and slid to No. 96 this week.

Also new to the Hot 100 were Flo Rida's "Right Round" at No. 74, Leona Lewis' "I Will Be" at No. 94, Jake Owen's "Don't Think I Can't Love You" at No. 98 and Yung L.A.'s "Ain't I" featuring Young Dro & T.I. at No. 100.

More copies for book inspired by Edwards' mistress
NEW YORK - An old Jay McInerney novel featuring a party girl based on John Edwards' future mistress, Rielle Hunter, is getting a fresh printing from its publisher.
An additional 2,500 copies have been commissioned for "Story of
My Life," according to Vintage Books, a paperback imprint of Random House, Inc. The book, first released in 1988, is narrated by a promiscuous, aspiring actress whom McInerney has said was inspired by Hunter — then named Lisa Druck — and a group of friends the author had met in New York.
As of Monday afternoon, "Story of My Life" was No. 470 on Amazon.com's best-seller list and was out of stock.
Edwards, a former Democratic presidential candidate and U.S. senator, acknowledged last week that he had had an affair with Hunter, who produced videos for Edwards as he prepared to launch his presidential race.
McInerney, 53, is best known for the million-selling "Bright Lights, Big City." His other works include "Ransom," "Brightness Falls" and "The Good Life."

Patrick Swayze made peace with death, memoir shows
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Actor Patrick Swayze made peace with the notion of dying from pancreatic cancer after initially finding his diagnosis a "cruel joke," according to a memoir to be published later this mont
h.

The "Dirty Dancing" star, 57, who lost his 20-month battle against the disease on Monday, wrote that fighting his cancer had been an "emotional rollercoaster".

But in excerpts of the memoir "The Time of My Life", released on Wednesday, he wrote later; "I began thinking to myself, I've had more lifetimes than any 10 people put together, and it's been an amazing ride. So this is okay."

The book, which Swayze co-wrote with his wife of 34 years, Lisa Niemi, will be published on September 29. Excerpts were released to People magazine and NBC News.

Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which has only a 5 percent, five-year survival rate, in January 2008.

"I had been excited about the upswing my life was on," Swayze wrote. "Now it all seemed like a cruel joke. I couldn't be dying -- I had too much to live for!"

While undergoing chemotherapy, Swayze filmed a new TV police drama series called "The Beast," which was broadcast in the United States earlier this year.

"There are days when I feel determined to live until a cure is found, and truly believe I can do it," he wrote. "And there are days when I'm so tired, I just don't know how I can keep on going."

Atria Books publisher Judith Curr told NBC's "Today" show that "when he sat down to write the book, he wanted to see if he had lived a good life.

"He absolutely was a good person and lived a good life," Curr said.

Swayze's storied career included runs on Broadway in the plays "Grease" and "Chicago." He also starred in the 1990 blockbuster "Ghost" and the 2001 movie "Donnie Darko."

No plans have been announced for Swayze's funeral.

Michael Sarver isn't ready to go back to oil rig
LOS ANGELES – Michael Sarver, latest castoff from "American Idol," isn't ready to go back to the oil rig.

"I don't think it would be a great idea to get out there and take a chance on hurting myself and not being a
vailable for the tour," he told a teleconference Friday, a day after being eliminated from the Fox singing competition.

"I'm going home, and I'm going to take some time off to spend with my family. I believe they deserve my undivided attention for a little while and that's exactly what they're going to get."

Sarver will take part in the "Idols Live" tour with the rest of the top 10 contestants this summer. Dates have yet to be announced.

He said he didn't take it personally when judge Simon Cowell told him this week that there's no way he could win. "It didn't necessarily tick me off, nor did it insult me, but it kind of made me giggle, because he knows better than that. We didn't get there by mistake," Sarver said.

And he's not just an oil worker who sings. "I am a serious writer, and I have written over 890 songs since the age of 14," he said. "There's a lot of stories, a lot of ... hard-lived life, good-lived life, and my happiness that I experience in life now all through my music and I'm going to share it."

His favorite "American Idol" moment? Shooting hoops with the guys. Danny Gokey, Anoop Desai and Sarver would play basketball to blow off steam.

"It was quite fun. I was horrible, of course," he said, adding that Desai is an intense player. "When Anoop missed, he did not like it. He would beat himself up until he got it."
