• Berlusconi is named `Rockstar of the Year'

  ROME – He's Italian premier, media mogul and one of the country's richest men. Now Silvio Berlusconi can add "Rockstar of the Year" to his caps.

  The Italian edition of Rolling Stone magazine said it named Berluscon

  i for a "lifestyle worthy of the greatest rock stars." The magazine dedicated the cover of its December issue to a smiling Berlusconi, the red, white and green colors of the Italian flag in the backdrop.

  The 73-year-old premier has been entangled in a sex scandal this year, with several young women saying they attended parties at his residences. One prostitute says she spent one night with Berlusconi in Rome but wasn't paid.

  The premier has denied ever paying for sex, though he said he is "no saint."

  Last year, Roberto Saviano — author of the book "Gomorrah," a crime expose on Neapolitan organized crime — became the first person to be named Rolling Stone's "Rockstar of the Year."

• Jay-Z more than a rockstar at 9/11 concert

  NEW YORK – Since the collapse of the World Trade Center on 9/11, many people have helped rebuild New York City in different ways. Rapper Jay-Z did it his own way: headlining a star-studded concert at Madison Square Garden

  The 39-year-old Brooklyn native performed to a sold-out crowd Friday night for his "Answer the Call" concert, which paid tribute to the police officers and firefighters who died responding to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

  The Pledge of Allegiance kicked off the show, followed by "The Star-Spangled Banner" infused with an electric guitar. Jay-Z continued with his own New York anthems — including "Empire State of Mind"; "Where I'm From," a song about his upbringing in the Marcy housing projects complex; and "Brooklyn Go Hard," a collaboration with alternative singer Santigold.

  The rapper, whose real name is Shawn Carter, went on to perform over 30 songs from his 11 albums during the two-hour set. The concert aired on Fuse TV, and all proceeds will be donated to the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund.

  A myriad of special guests came out to help celebrate. John Mayer rocked out on the electric guitar on "Dirt Off Your Shoulder" and Mary J. Blige added her signature gritty soul-sound on "Can't Knock the Hustle."

  Jay-Z's wife, Beyonce, dominated the stage with a swagger-jammed dance routine to her hit song "Diva."

  Rihanna, in her first performance since her February altercation with Chris Brown, showed she's ready to return to the stage when she sang on "Run This Town." Kanye West also performed on the song.

  "We stand here tonight eight years later even stronger, even stronger," Jay-Z yelled before the performance. "This is our own. We run this town New York City!"

  The performers set a serious tone Friday night — wearing mainly black and gray onstage.

  The crowd, who chanted "Hova," Jay-Z's nickname, between each song, never sat since the first song began.

  On the eight-year anniversary of 9/11, the rapper — who has had major success on the charts and has garnered as much respect on the streets — hoped to add light to the tragic day.

  "We should always move past it and be strong but never forget," he said in a recent interview.

  Jay-Z held a moment of silence three-quarters into the show, but the most emotional moment of the night came later when a montage of the faces of the men and women who died on 9/11 was shown. The head shots of the fallen appeared on a backdrop of buildings while Jay-Z's "Young Forever" played in the background.

  "Make some noise for everybody that lost their lives so we can live ours," he said.

• Timbaland unleashes his beats in 'Beaterator'

  LOS ANGELES – Timbaland is not afraid of wannabes stealing his flow.

  The producer-singer, who has collaborated with musicians ranging from Justin Timberlake to Nelly, has found a new duet partner in Rockstar Games.

  Timbaland is teaming up with the developer behind the "Grand Theft Auto" franchise on the handheld music-making application "Beaterator," but the hip-hop impresario doesn't think the app will put him out of a job.

  "I can give you everything," he teases, "but you're not gonna think like I would think."

  "Beaterator" features nearly 1,300 sounds and loops created by Timbaland and about another 2,000 from the developers at Rockstar Games. The application is split into three modes: Live Play, Studio Sessions and Song Crafter. Unlike rhythm titles like "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band," there's no game element to "Beaterator." Everything is unlocked from the outset.

  Amateur mixmasters can layer vocals, drum machine sounds, kicks, snares, bass loops, synth sounds and a myriad of other noises to create unique beats and melodies. The only game-like aspect of "Beaterator" is Live Play, which allows users to create a song by mashing buttons alongside a virtual Timbaland, who the real Timbaland insists could use some more muscles.

  The Grammy winner — whose real name is Tim Mosley — wasn't prepared for how long it took to transform "Beaterator" from a simple application that originally appeared on Rockstar Games' Web site in 2005 into a full-blown beat machine program that will be available for the PlayStation Portable on Sept. 29 and the iPhone and iPod Touch later this fall.

  "They broke it down and said, 'Tim, this is not like music. It's gonna take three to four years. Are you prepared for that?'" says Timbaland. "I thought about it just like this — let me try it. And so here we are today. It's all about timing. Sometimes you look at those years and think it's a long time, but it's really not. It's really not."

• Meet the Barker Settlement

  Los Angeles (E! Online) - Somebody blinked.

  The makers of Rockstar have settled up with former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, who sued after an image of him holding the energy drink was featured on the beverage's website.

  Barker's lawyer, Gregory Weisman, said the deal is tentative and the terms are still be hammered out. The agreement is expected to take about 45 days before a Los Angeles Superior Court finally signs off on it.

  A hearing in the suit had been scheduled for Thursday.

  On Jan. 16, Barker opened a can of legal whoopass on Rockstar Beverage Corp., suing the firm for invasion of privacy, unfair competition and misappropriating his likeness after discovering Rockstar featured a photograph of him on its website. The image, snapped at the 2006 American Music Awards, showed Barker with a can of Rockstar, making it appear as if he's endorsing the product.

  The 32-year-old musician alleged the energy drink maker attempted to "profit on an unauthorized, unlawful use of Mr. Barker's name, image, persona, likeness and endorsement...for its own commercial gain."

  After being contacted by his lawyers, Rockstar took the offending pic down, but not before getting hit with the complaint.

  The company's attorneys responded to the suit with a filing in March, claiming Barker "voluntarily posed for and consented to the taking of the photography at issue" during the AMA ceremony, for which Rockstar served as a sponsor. The defense also asserted Blink's beatmeister sought a sponsorship deal with the firm but only sued after Rockstar turned him down.

• Rockstar Roost on the Market From Wentz It Came

  Los Angeles (E! Online) - After marrying Ashlee Simpson-Wentz in May, Pete Wentz is finally ready to sell his sweet Hollywood Hills bachelor pad. E! News has learned that Wentz put his three-bedroom, three-bath house on the market

  this week. The rocker purchased the house in 2006 for $1,625,000 and is trying to sell it now for $1,799,000.

  According to Wentz's realtor listing, the "late mid-century" house has "sweeping 180 degree views of the Valley to the Hollywood Sign." The "secluded celebrity Hollywood Hills hide-a-way features a light and bright floor plan with fantastic architectural details, land, pool, spa & outdoor BBQ entertaining area."

  And did we mention a rock star used to live here?

  When Wentz and Simpson-Wentz were engaged, they split their time between two houses, but they've settled at Simpson-Wentz's more family-friendly Beverly Hills home, a nearly 6,000-square-foot place with four bedrooms and four baths.

  This way, even if they were to have the now almost-mandatory Hollywood twins, they will still have plenty of space for their family to grow.
