Just a Minute With: Audrina Patridge on "Sorority Row"
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Hollywood actress Audrina Patridge became a U.S. television personality when she landed on MTV's hit reality series "The Hills."

But she hopes to become a movie actress and pla
ys the victim of a prank in horror film "Sorority Row," which debuts in U.S. theaters on Friday.

Patridge also is also working on her own reality TV series for MTV. The series, which has yet to have a name or air date, will follow her personal and professional life.

Patridge talked with Reuters about sororities, her new movie and how her new show will be different from "The Hills."

Q: Do you think of yourself as a sorority girl?

A: "I've never thought of myself as a sorority girl. I don't think I could ever be in a sorority house or live with like six girls. I would go crazy."

Q: Why?

A: "From watching other sorority movies and from my friends' experience, it's all competitive and cattiness. I mean, aside from being loyal and sisters and being there for each other, that's the good part. But then of course there's always the downside ... The only sorority that I can see myself in is this movie."

Q: How was the change from reality TV to acting on the big screen for "Sorority Row"?

A: "It's like day and night. I mean, aside from there being cameras, it's totally different. It's not even comparable. I mean, on the movie you have a script, you have all your lines that you have to memorize, get into character. There's a lot of waiting around. And you know, you'll be filming for like weeks straight or months straight on movies, whereas with reality (TV), like, I'll show up for a lunch scene and be there for two hours and that's it. So it's very different."

Q: Which do you like better?

A: "I love movies. I love acting. I love the scripts. The whole waiting around, you know, that just comes along with it. It's much more challenging and that's what I like."

Q: Tell me about your new series.

A: "My new show. Well, as soon as we're done filming these bonus episodes for "The Hills," then I segueway into the new show with (producer) Mark Burnett and I'm also going to be producing on it. So I'll have more of a voice and a creative part of the show -- what we should and shouldn't film and what's more interesting and what's not interesting. It's about my life and relationships, friendships, Hollywood, acting, you know, events, what goes on behind closed doors."

Q: Will you do anything different from "The Hills"?

A: "It's going to be real. "The Hills" is a reality show but it's going to be more ... The tone will be a little different ... We're still all in the process of, you know, jotting down what we want, what we don't want, who we want to work with, getting the cast -- not the cast -- getting all the crew together, like, you know, we need a story-runner. We need a director. We need everything."

Q: Is it going to follow your love life?

A: "My love life, yes. Cory (Bohan) will be in the show and my love life will definitely be on the show because it's part of my life."
Q: Are we going to see you in another movie soon?
A: "I'm actually reading three scripts right now and I go and audition for them soon."

"Hills" star Audrina Patridge eyes horror
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Audrina Patridge from MTV's "The Hills" is set to die a sadistic death in "Sorority Row," a remake of the 1983 horror movie, "The House on Sorority Row."
The
cast also includes "Samurai Girl" star Jamie Chung and Hollywood scion Rumer Willis. Carrie Fisher is in negotiations to join the project.
The plot sees a group of sorority sisters try to cover up the death of their house-sister after a prank gone wrong, only to be stalked and killed by a serial killer.
Fisher would play the sorority's house mother. As with Patridge, Chung will also play a sister with a shortened life expectancy.
Stewart Hendler is directing the Summit Entertainment project. Shooting set to start in early October in Pittsburgh.
Patridge recently wrapped her feature debut with "Into the Blue 2."

Tyler Perry leads box office for 2nd time in 2009
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Prolific filmmaker Tyler Perry scored his second No. 1 movie of the year at the North American box office on Sunday, leading a weak field of newcomers in what is traditionally one of the industry&#
39;s slowest weekends.

Perry's latest family comedy, "I Can Do Bad All By Myself," sold $24 million worth of tickets during the three days beginning Friday, distributor Lionsgate said.

The writer-producer-director-actor, whose low-budget films are popular among black women, did better in February with "Madea Goes to Jail," which opened to a personal best of $41 million. But exactly a year ago, Perry's "The Family That Preys" opened to $17 million. The two most recent films starred Perry's alter ego Madea, a pistol-packing granny.

Also new was the animated film "9" at No. 2 with $10.9 million, in line with expectations. The film got an early start on the competition by opening on Wednesday, and its total stands at $15.3 million.

The horror movie "Sorority Row" debuted at No. 6 with $5.3 million, and English actress Kate Beckinsale's icy thriller "Whiteout" came in at No. 7 with $5.1 million. Both films, targeting younger moviegoers, were expected to open in the high-single-digit range.

Business usually drops sharply in the first weekend following the U.S. Labor Day holiday weekend, as children return to school and football season kicks in. The studios respond in kind by clearing out their summer leftovers.

The top 12 films grossed $78 million, according to tracking firm Hollywood.com Box-Office. This represents a 3 percent drop from last weekend, and a 9 percent fall from the year-ago period, the company said.

After two weekends at No. 1, the horror film "The Final Destination" fell to No. 5 with $5.5 million, taking its total to $58.3 million.

Quentin Tarantino's Nazi revenge fantasy "Inglourious Basterds" slipped one place to No. 3 with $6.5 million in its fourth weekend. The film has now earned $104.4 million, and needs just $4 million more to become his biggest film in North America. The title is currently held by "Pulp Fiction," which earned $108 million in 1994.

Lionsgate is a unit of Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. "9" was released by Focus Features, a unit of General Electric Co's Universal Pictures. "Inglourious Basterds" was released by Weinstein Co. The closely held firm co-financed "Inglourious Basterds" with Universal Pictures.

"Sorority Row" was released by Summit Entertainment, which is closely held. "Whiteout" and "The Final Destination" were released by Warner Bros Pictures, a unit of Time Warner Inc.

Los Angeles (E! Online) - Pretty soon, Keira Knightley is going to know all about Last Night.
The Oscar nominee and perpetual-period-piece thesp is stepping out of a corset and into some modern-day garb, joining Eva Mendes, Sam
Worthington and French actress Guillaume Canet in the new relationship drama.
According to Variety, Last Night centers on a young married couple who each face temptations to stray in the form of a business trip with an attractive colleague and a chance encounter with a past love.
It's unclear how the roles will be divvied up.
Newcomer Massy Tadjedin wrote and will make her directorial debut on the flick, which begins shooting in New York next month.
In other big casting news:
• Tomorrowland never dies for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Hoping to repeat the unlikely success of Pirates of the Caribbean, Disney has begun plans to turn its futuristic theme park section into an epic, space opera with Johnson leading the way, per Variety. The Magic Kingdom denies that the film will be called Tomorrowland, but Mickey's minions have hired two writers to begin work on the park-inspired project. • Just call her the Fresh Princess of North Carolina. Jada Pinkett Smith is becoming the latest big-screen actress to take on a prestige cable project, returning to the small screen to star in and executive produce the TNT drama pilot Time Heals. The show will star Pinkett Smith as a strong but caring director of nursing at Charlotte Mercy Hospital. • It's all Greek to her. The Hills star Audrina Patridge has pledged Sorority Row, joining the remake of the 1983 horror flick The House on Sorority Row as an ill-fated coed along with Samurai Girl Jamie Chung. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Carrie Fisher is also in talks to join the popcorn flick as the mother of the sorority sisters, who try to cover up two members' deaths when a prank goes wrong only to become victims themselves of a serial killer. Rumer Willis is also on board. • Have you met Mr. Jones? The cast of How I Met Your Mother soon will, as Daily Show correspondent Jason Jones will bring his ironically detached self over to the set to guest star on an episode of the CBS sitcom. Per the Hollywood Reporter, Jones will play the ex of Sarah Chalke's returning character Stella Zinman, and the father of her son. • 90210's resident jock Dustin Milligan is stretching his acting muscles to play a wannabe stud in Mike Judge's new all-star comedy Extract, per the Hollywood Reporter. The film centers on the owner of a flower-extract plant who tests his theory that his wife is cheating on him. Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig, Ben Affleck and Mila Kunis also star.

Tyler Perry has good opening with 'Bad'
LOS ANGELES – Being bad is good for Tyler Perry, whose latest movie, "I Can Do Bad All By Myself," opened at the top of the box office this weekend with more than $24 million.

The Lionsgate comedy stars Oscar nomin
ee Taraji P. Henson ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button") as a hard-drinking nightclub singer forced to care for her delinquent niece and nephews. Besides directing and writing the film, based on his stage play of the same name, Perry co-stars as his brash, cross-dressing alter ego, Madea.

It's Perry's second film this year to open at No. 1. In February, "Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail" debuted at the top spot with $41 million, which stands as the biggest opening of his eight films.

"Tyler Perry has a special way of speaking to his audience, and it's unbelievable," David Spitz, Lionsgate's executive vice president and general sales manager, said Sunday. "He always knows what his audience wants, and I never underestimate him."

Spitz said the presence of the popular Madea character, plus a cast that included Henson, Mary J. Blige, Gladys Knight and Pastor Marvin Winans, helped put the movie on top. It also had the best critical reception of all of Perry's films, with 58 percent positive reviews on the Rotten Tomatoes Web site.

Perry, who's known for his productivity, has the sequel "Why Did I Get Married Too" coming out next spring. And in a rare adaptation of someone else's work, he's preparing to go into production on a film version of the Ntozake Shange stage play "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf."

Hollywood.com box-office analyst Paul Dergarabedian joked that his latest movie should have been called, "Tyler Perry's I Can Do No Wrong at the Box Office."

"Eight theatrical films, five No. 1 debuts — Lionsgate has a perpetually successful franchise in Tyler Perry," Dergarabedian said. "He is the brand. He's a very rare example of a director-writer-actor who is completely synonymous with his work and with the success of his movies."

Coming in second was the dark, animated "9" from Focus Features, which made $10.9 million this weekend, according to Sunday estimates. Since its Wednesday opening — on 9-9-09 — the movie has made about $15.3 million. The voice cast includes Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Christopher Plummer and Jennifer Connelly as hand-stitched dolls who represent the last vestige of humanity after a war between man and machine.

In what is traditionally a slow time at the box office between the summer blockbusters and the fall prestige films, two other new releases had so-so openings. The Summit Entertainment horror flick "Sorority Row" came in at No. 6 with about $5.3 million, while the Kate Beckinsale thriller "Whiteout" from Warner Bros. followed in seventh place with $5.1 million.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com. Final figures will be released Tuesday.
