Kevin James comedy "Zookeeper" moved to summer 2011
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Sony Pictures took a good look at its recently acquired Kevin James comedy, "The Zookeeper," and saw summer sizzler written all over it.

As a result, the movie, which co
mbines live action and animation, is moving from a scheduled October 8 release date to July 8, 2011.

By delaying the film's release, the studio stands to benefit from a more lucrative box-office play period.

The voice cast for the caged creatures includes Adam Sandler, Sylvester Stallone, Cher and Rosario Dawson.

Most production on the picture is complete, except for some visual effects involving the talking creatures -- who yack throughout "Zookeeper" with zookeeper James.

Sony recently acquired control of the project from MGM, its co-producer on "Zookeepers."

'Zookeeper' monkeys evacuated from Boston hotel
BOSTON – Two movie-star monkeys and crew members of the Adam Sandler film "The Zookeeper" are among the 300 guests who were evacuated from a Boston hotel after carbon monoxide alarms went off.

Fire Department spoke
sman Steve MacDonald says a small boiler leak at the luxury Liberty hotel prompted elevated readings at around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. He says the leak was fixed early afternoon and no one was hurt.

Liberty spokesman Jim Treadway says the hotel has also hosted the non-animal stars of "The Zookeeper," but none slept over Wednesday. He declined to drop names.

"The Zookeeper" made headlines earlier this month when a teenage boy fell into a lion pit at the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston that was part of the movie set. No animals were in the area, and the boy was not badly hurt.

Boy falls into Boston zoo movie set's lion pit
BOSTON – A teenage boy visiting a Boston zoo has fallen into a lion pit that's part of a set for the upcoming Kevin James movie "The Zookeeper."

Franklin Park Zoo spokeswoman Brooke Wardrop says no animals were ins
ide when the boy fell Wednesday and the movie crew wasn't around.

Fire department spokesman Steve MacDonald says the 16-year-old fell about 25 feet and a net helped break his fall. The boy's injuries aren't considered life-threatening.

A movie set medic was with the boy when firefighters arrived, pulled him from the pit and took him to a hospital.

Zoo officials are investigating how the boy got into the area, a former gorilla exhibit known as the Lion's Den.

In the movie, the former star of the CBS sitcom "The King of Queens" plays a zookeeper unlucky at love.

Giraffe in Toys R Us ads, films dies at Boston zoo
BOSTON – A giraffe that starred in a series of TV commercials for Toys R Us and appeared in Jim Carrey's movie "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" has died at a Boston zoo.

American Humane, an animal welfare group that ov
ersees animal treatment on movie sets, said Tweet the giraffe died Friday at the Franklin Park Zoo where producers are filming the Kevin James movie "The Zookeeper."

The 18-year-old giraffe didn't belong to the zoo and had no known health problems.

Tweet collapsed in its enclosure while feeding and in the care of his trainer. Results of a necropsy are pending.

The animal welfare group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, alleges Tweet was mistreated and has asked for an investigation. American Humane denies mistreatment.

Jack Hanna wards off grizzly with pepper spray
COLUMBUS, Ohio – TV host and zookeeper Jack Hanna says he took his own advice and used pepper spray on a grizzly bear headed toward him.

is wife and other hikers in Montana's Glacier National Park on Saturday when a bear cub, weighing about 125 pounds, charged them. Hanna told The Columbus Dispatch that he held up a canister of pepper spray, which he takes routinely on hikes.

"At about 30 feet, I unload my pepper spray, and the wind takes it," he told the newspaper.

But the bear kept coming. Hanna sprayed toward the animal again, but still it kept coming.

"Then the third time I unload that pepper spray right in his face," Hanna said.

The bear turned around and fled.

Hanna said he's been carrying pepper spray on hikes for 15 years, but Saturday was the first time he's used it.

The group was returning from Grinnell Glacier by way of a narrow trail with a cliff on one side and a steep drop-off on the other. They rounded a corner and saw a mother bear and two large cubs about 30-feet away coming toward them, the newspaper reported Tuesday.

"We thought of letting them go by, but the trail was cut into the rock and was too narrow," Hanna said. "So I said, 'Everybody talk loud and we'll back up until we can get off the trail.'"

They moved slowly back up the trail to a clearing.

"I said, 'Crawl up the hill and put your backs against the wall,'" he said.

Then they stood still while the mother and one cub passed by. The other cub, instead, charged toward them.

Hanna had recently filmed a message for the National Park Service encouraging hikers to carry pepper spray.
